Con Sheehan is “the next real Irish World champion” says Fury
Peter Fury is aiming for the top with Tipp heavyweight Con Sheehan [1(0)-0].
The Clonmel big man has joined up with Team Fury following some time spent in Oakland with Virgil Hunter, and Peter Fury likes what the former amateur star has to offer.
The coach of heavyweight World champion Tyson Fury spoke to Irish-Boxing.com about the new Irish addition his team and revealed that “I’ve been very impressed with him.”
“He’s a decorated amateur having had well over 250 fights and won many major titles.”
“The experience will hold him very well in the pro ranks.”
“He’s a great World-level talent and I have every confidence in his ability to go all the way – and fast.”
The mastermind behind Fury’s shock win over Wladimir Klitschko last year notes how Sheehan has adjusted well to life at the Fury gym in Bolton. He outlined how “my style of boxing is different and my training regimes are also different.”
“He’s coming along nicely, how I want him too, and I’m very happy with what I see.”
Going forward, Fury is planning to keep Sheehan a lot more active and explained that “we are looking at up to four fights this year if we can, then next year put him in with British-rated fighters.”
“Long term plan is for him to represent his country and win a World title.”
“I’m in boxing for only World honours and this kid is the next real Irish World champion – 100%.”
“I’m excited to bring him to the top. Get behind him.”
