Carl Frampton has bigger fish to fry than the fighter with fish-frying experience.
Scott Quigg, whose famously family run a chipper in Bury, has admitted he is obsessed with securing a rematch with the man who broke his duck egg and his jaw back in February of this year.
Since unifying the super bantamweight division that night in Manchester, Frampton has moved up in weight and into the pound for pound reckoning by defeating Leo Santa Cruz in New York to become a two weight World champion.
‘The Jackal’ now looks set to rematch the Mexican-American star, and has set his sights on unification bouts with the likes of Lee Selby and Gary Russell Jr.
Quigg isn’t on his radar, and the undefeated Belfast fighter doesn’t see why he should be. Frampton claims he proved the Bury native is a Sky hype job and, at present, shouldn’t be linked to elite featherweights.
Asked by Sky Boxing’s Toe 2 Toe Podcast if a Quigg return would ever happen he said,
“I don’t know. At the minute I don’t think it will happen. He seems to be a bit desperate at the minute.”
“Before the fight I was calling Quigg a Sky TV hype job, that’s what I said in the build up to the fight and I was being honest. I genuinely believe that and I think that I proved it as well.”
“The fight wasn’t a good fight, it wasn’t appealing to the fans. I won the fight without having to get out of first gear. It was a boring fight and no one wants to see it.”
Frampton hasn’t completely ruled out a repeat with the Matchroom fighter claiming if he has to fight his rival he will.
“If he strings a few wins together and a few exciting performances then there is potential of it happening again, but at the minute I have bigger fish to fry. I beat him convincingly in first gear and I want the big names.
“No disrespect to Scott Quigg, but outside of Bury nobody knows who he is.”
“Santa Cruz, [Lee] Selby, Gary Russell, Oscar Valdez these are the names I want to be fighting, not Scott Quigg, but I I have to fight him then I’ll fight him.”
