Ormond opponent fails post fight drug test

Stephen Ormond beat a drug cheat the last time he entered the ring.

Marcos Jimenez tested positive for steroids and cannabis straight after his March Inter-Continental IBF lightweight title bout with ‘The Rock’.

Team Ormond got conformation of the results today and while, despite being substance enhanced, the Dominican fighter couldn’t cause ‘The Rock’ any trouble on the night the news remains worrying for the sport.

The Commission Stateside have yet to comment on what punishment awaits Jimenez, but a ban most likely awaits.

Ormond is the second Irish fighter to discover a former foe had tested positive for drugs of late. Erkan Teper who savagely broke Martin Rogan’s jaw in late 2013 was also found out to be a drug cheat.

The news might upset Ormond somewhat, but he will be content he didn’t fall foul to the drug cheat.

The Clondalkin puncher is currently training and hopes to have news of a big fight very soon. Ormond remains confident he will get a World title shot in 2016, although he has all but given up hope on a Terry Flanagan rematch.

‘Turbo’s’ avoidance of Ormond makes his ‘Anthony Crolla is avoiding me’ comments somewhat ironic, but regardless the former WBO European Champion is now moving down the IBF route.
