Conor Wallace discusses sparring Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is a very skillful and slick puncher according to a very ‘humbled’ sparring partner.

The UFC featherweight champion was sparring National Elite runner-up Conor Wallace in Dublin last week at the Straight Blast Gym.

Newry’s Wallace has just returned from a training camp in Azerbaijan, and the Tokyo 2020 hopeful has been helping the mixed martial arts star further hone his boxing skills ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz on August 20th in Las Vegas.

Like Diaz, Wallace is a long outside southpaw and had a huge height advantage over the former Crumlin amateur, but it wasn’t only the MMA star that got something out of the sparring.

Wallace’s social media following certainly increased and he seemed benefit in terms of confidence too.

Speaking to Belfast Live, the six time Irish champion was full of praise for McGregor and even thankful for the spars.

“It was near like I was imagining things sparring McGregor, but he was just like a normal person having the craic with everyone in the gym, really sound and down to earth.”

“I was very impressed with his boxing skill, he’s very skillful and slick,” said the 20-year-old middleweight.

“It only really hit home last night with all the posts, likes, phone calls and messages I received. The amount of friend and follow requests I have received is unbelievable. I am very humbled and thankful.”
