Conlan faces King
17 August 2010 – Cormac Campbell
Belfasts Jamie Conlan, 3-0 (1KO) will face Welshman Kyle King on the undercard of Carl Framptons clash with Yuriy Voronin at the Ulster Hall on September 18.
And 23-year-old Conlan believes the contest on the Barry McGuigan promoted bill will help propel his career to the next level.
I love the Ulster Hall, he said. I boxed there three times and won three times. Ive also been to lots of fights there as a fan. It is so compact, the crowd is right on top of the action which is brilliant.
Im getting my tickets this week so Im hoping to have a lot of people there supporting me. The atmosphere is going to be brilliant because at shows like this people are in their seats for the whole card and not just the main event.
I know my fans will be supporting Carl in the main event and his fans will support me as well so hopefully in the future both of us will be topping bills in Belfast and winning British, Commonwealth, European and World titles. I think we both have the ability to do that.
In King, 1-1, Conlan takes the next step towards that goal.
He is a good come forward fighter, he said.
Most people think he was on the wrong end of a bad decision against Usman Ahmed last year so he should be undefeated and I will be treating him as if he is. But I will be ready for him. Hopefully a title shot will come within 4-5 fights. My coach John Breen definitely thinks I am good enough.
Helping Conlan prepare for the contest is younger brother Michael, who will compete in the Commonwealth Games later this year.
Ive been sparring with Michael and also one of the Welsh boxers. Hopefully when Michael wins the Commonwealth Games I will be ready to fight for the Commonwealth title. That would be great.
The bill will be topped by Carl Framptons clash with Yuriy Voronin and also features Prizefighter Winner Willie Big Bang Casey, Stephen Haughian, Ryan Greene, Troy James and Chris Keane. Tickets are available, priced 55, 45, 35, 30 from the Box Office on 028 90334455 or by logging on to www.ulsterhall.co.uk.
