Carroll would retire if he slipped on banana skin on Saturday night
Jono Carroll says he will retire if he slips up on Saturday night.
Jordan Ellison, who he trades leather with on the big Anthony Crolla v Ismael Barroso undercard, has been billed as a potential banana skin opponent, but ‘King Kong’ doesn’t see it that way.
He is quick to point out that he has taken challenges throughout his young career, and defeated former champions en-route to 9-0.
Declan Geraghty was added to the record in fight number three, Stephen Foster and Gary Buckland were defeated on the same night in Prizefighter, and Jordan Ellison, who has upset a number of prospects, doesn’t compare claims the confident Celtic Warrior Gym puncher.
“I am not bothered about his reputation. Look who I have fought in recently Declan Geraghty in my third fight, the likes of Buckland, Micheal Devine and a tough opponent in Germany in a last minute ten rounder. I am in this game to be World champion and if I lost to him on Saturday I would retire,” Carroll told Irish-boxing.com.
“Don’t get me wrong, I am not overlooking him. I didn’t look at his so called upsets, and I think you have to look at the fact a lot of lads he fought that were unbeaten were like most fighters – given handy fights to get them to 7-0 – I looked at his recent fights. He has a good jab and goes to the body, but I beat him in every department.
“I am not even going in there with a game plan. I know I can out box him if needs be or if I have to sit down and go to work I can out fight him.”
Not only does Carroll predict victory he is confident of an eye catching performance on the Sky Broadcast show.
“I was training to fight on the Pajo (Patrick Hyland vs Gary Russell) card so I am super fit. I peaked for that and was on weight so it’s been about just maintaining over recent weeks. I even had turkey burgers before I went the gym today and that was after a breakfast this morning.
“I weighed myself before training and I was only three pounds over. I feel fit and sharp and I really think I will be at another level on Saturday. I am expecting an amazing performance. I have spent time learning in the gym and I have matured and improved too.”
