Jamie confident of keeping the Conlan Copperbox run going

Jamie Conlan has fond memories of the Copperbox Arena and he is confident that won’t change come Saturday night.

The London venue has proved a happy hunting ground for the family and Conlan is adamant it will remain that way come April 30.

The Belfast super fly returns to the venue for the first time since he watched his younger brother Michael Conlan win Olympic bronze there in 2012 and he is confident of winning silverware on a card that James Tennyson also competes on.

The Frank Warren promoted World title hopeful fights undefeated Anthony Nelson for the vacant Commonwealth title and assures he will have too much for the Newcastle puncher.

“The last time I was there I was cheering Michael on and now I want to keep our successful record at the venue going,” Conlan told the Belfast Newsletter.

“Nelson is a good fighter and he is unbeaten but I just believe I am a different level to him. I just believe I am a better fighter than him – but I have to go in there and prove it.

“He is a come forward fighter and I think he is tailor made for me,” he added.

Conlan has discussed the fight with his baby brother and his father John, who is involved with Team Ireland and has taken some family advice.

“Preparation has gone really well and I am looking forward to the fight.”

“I have watched Nelson in action and we have got a game plan that we are sure will work. My dad John, my coach and my brother Michael all watched Nelson on the Internet and we all came up with the same plan to win the fight.
