John Joe Nevin update – Return to the ring imminent
John Joe Nevin will return to the ring and crank up his activity levels in the coming months.
The 2012 Olympic silver medalist has been out of action for almost five months, but will fight “several times in the next month.”
Those are the words of Nevin’s manager, Tom Moran of GreenBlood Boxing, who is guiding the former amateur superstar’s career along with the influential Cameron Dunkin.
Nevin debuted in early 2014, before being sidelined following a vicious assault that left him with two broken legs. He returned with two wins towards the end of the year but was then subject to a period of inactivity following problems outside the ring.
The Mullingar Shuffler roared back into action in late 2015 with four wins in three months, but has seen a lack of fights since.
Moran revealed the reason for Nevin’s most recent spell out of the ring is due to the removal of the metal bar in his leg which was installed after his injury. The 27 year old has been undergoing rehab and Moran promises thathe will be “back to his old self and fighting regularly shortly.”
Fans may remember the discomfort posed by the metal bar from the RTÉ2 ‘Reality Bites’ documentary, and it is hoped that Nevin will be better than ever upon his return.
