Frampton wants to bring Santa Cruz to Belfast
Showtime claim Carl Frampton will challenge for Leo Santa Cruz’s WBA Featherweight World title in either LA or Las Vegas in late Summer, but the IBF and WBA super bantamweight World champion is keen for the clash to play out in Belfast.
Despite Showtime’s revelations last Friday neither Team Frampton, Team Santa Cruz or PBC have confirmed the fight has been agreed and when commenting on the bout ‘The Jackal’ was non committal talking in more in ‘ifs’ than ‘whens’.
However, when speaking on the Nolan Show on Monday morning the popular champ claimed the Mexican and a move up in weight appealed most. Frampton also said he would love to bring a fight that would generate massive interest around the World to Belfast this summer.
“That’s a fight that’s very appealing to me it’s the weight above me in feather weight – so I would have to move up.
“A dream was always to become a world champion I’ve reached that goal and unified the divison.
“Another dream is to be a two weight world champion – we set new goals all the time.
“I’m hoping I can bring him (Santa Cruz) here but I don’t think he’ll come.”
