‘Big Decisions’ to be made ahead Frampton’s next move says McGuigan

Carl Frampton seems to have more options than a multiple choice exam after beating Scott Quigg in Manchester to become unified IBF and WBA super bantamweight champion of the World.

Leo Santa Cruz, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Shingo Wake, Lee Selby, Nonito Donaire, Hugo Ruiz and more are all beeping on the Jackal’s lethal radar.

Such is the list of option’s that manager and Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan claims time will be needed before choosing which road to next travel down.

The Irish fight legend claims a Scott Quigg rematch is certainly not on the card, but suggests every other option will be explored during a dust settling period.

Speaking in his Daily Mirror column the former featherweight champion of the World said.

“Doubling up on belts is great in theory, but in practice success gets complicated.

“Carl now has mandatory obligations to the IBF and WBA after last week’s super bantamweight victory over Quigg. But he can’t meet both within the short time frames imposed.

“The WBA have ordered a match against Guillermo Rigondeaux and the IBF a defence against Shinji Wake.

“Cleary there is a big decision to make about Frampton’s next move, but what I can say is there will be no immediate rematch with Quigg.”

Just as he did in the post Frampton versus Quigg press conference McGuigan indicated Leo Santa Cruz is the preferred option, but no decision has been made as of yet and there are suggestions a Shingo Wake summer clash could proceed a mega meeting with the featherweight World champion.

“We would prefer a fight with Santa Cruz, who stopped Kiko Martinez on the same night Frampton saw off Quigg.

“That is a fight we would love, and I guarantee it would be the barn-burner that everybody wanted to see against Quigg. But before we sit down to consider our plans we are taking a few days to let the dust settle,” he added
