Scott Quigg claims Carl Frampton’s nose and his chances of defeat on February 27th are both growing.

The English fighter has continued his quest to get under the skin of rival Carl Frampton and gone as far as branding the Irish boxing’s leading light a ‘liar’.

The Matchroom super bantamweight seems to be trying to knock ‘The Jackal’s’ confidence by continually pushing the fact he believes the IBF super bantamweight Champion of the World has been ‘knocked out’ in sparring.

The WBA World champion attempted to raise the point during the November press tour, only to be told by Joe Gallagher to wait before sharing gym rumour, but brought his knock out claim to the Gloves are Off table last week.

Frampton seemed to block the low blow by honestly revealing he has twice been down in sparring -once a flash knockdown from an unnamed fighter when his glove hit the canvas and once when he was hurt by a body shot by Stevie Bell, both early in his career – before revealing he had seen video of some poor Quigg sparring.

However, speaking to Sky Sports news Quigg was adamant Frampton was knocked out and put flat on his back in a sparring session in Scotland against a fighter that the pair both refrained from mentioning.

“I call him Pinocchio,” Quigg told Sky Sports News HQ. “He lied and it shocked me. I thought he would have just avoided the question.

“My sources told me he was knocked out on his back. I’ve seen fighters in the Wild Card get knocked down, knocked out and then go on to win world titles.

“I’ve had sparring… before Anthony Crolla’s last fight, he battered me around the ring for about six rounds and he gave me a black eye.

“People have bad spars but it was the fact that they used to call me ‘chinny’, you know when I got caught off balance against Jamie Arthur… (that) I couldn’t take a punch.

“When they have mud to throw, they throw it, they throw it around. But now the shoe is on the other foot, they don’t like it. Again, it’s taking that control away from them.

“It doesn’t mean anything. I know he can be hurt – any fighter can be hurt. You can get him by the right shot, you can be hurt and that’s why you’ve got to be switched on all the time.

“But he knows he’s been knocked out, and that’s a fact.”

Considering the rumours surrounding Quigg’s below-par sparring, it seems a risky strategy for the Bury man to take.

According to the boxing rumour mill, the man Quigg claims inflicted damage on Frampton in Scotland is John Simpson – a fighter that the Cyclone Promotions puncher sparred regularly around the time of his fifth and sixth fights. The shot which saw the Belfast man touch down was said to have been landed on a day Frampton had over indulged food-wise – hence his “fat amateur” comment in The Gloves are Off – and came long before he had even claimed Commonwealth honours.
