Scott Quigg’s trainer and Carl Frampton agree on very little.

Indeed there is what could be described as personal animosity between Joe Gallagher and the IBF super bantamweight World champ.

However, one thing that they seemingly do align on is that Frampton-Quigg should not be viewed as an Ireland v England affair.

Frampton recently outlined this view, noting his large fanbase in Britain. Additionally, The Jackal claimed that talk of Ireland v England was a tactic used by Matchroom to try and split the Belfast man’s support and drum up a following for England’s Quigg.

Gallagher however has revealed that he shares Frampton’s view, with the Sligo-Manchester coach explaining to the Irish News that “I don’t like this Ireland v England stuff because it isn’t like that.”

“Whoever keeps trying to spin that, it’s rubbish.”

The 2015 Ring Magazine trainer of the year pointed to the strong Irish roots in Team Quigg, noting that “Quigg’s grandparents are Irish, my parents are Irish, so this England versus Ireland craic is nonsense.”

Perhaps most notably though. Gallagher also compared Quigg’s cross-Irish Sea appeal to that of Frampton’s. The 47 year described how “Carl has plenty of fans in England and Scott Quigg has plenty of fans in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and southern Ireland.”

This final assertion from Gallagher should maybe be taken with a pinch of salt – especially considering the level of support Frampton enjoys in Belfast where he is nothing short of a bona fide super star.

While we doubt there are too many Irish Scott Quigg fans flying over for the February 27th super fight, we will have confirmation in less than two weeks time when the pair make their ring walks.
