Frampton: I feel sorry for Rigondeaux
When Carl Frampton says he feels sorry for Guillermo Rigondeaux he isn’t hitting back at the Cuban’s recent ‘coward’ jibes.
The IBF super bantamweight champion of the World has genuine pity for the plight of of Guillermo Rigondeaux.
The two time Olympic gold medal winner was stripped of his WBO and WBA title for inactivity, despite the fact he has been continually avoided .
Indeed, ‘Rigo’ who has been shunned by TV Networks, because such is his talent and skill set that his clashes are far from blood and guts affair, was made WBA champion in ‘recces’ a point Frampton has used to ridicule current belt holder Quigg.
As a result the Cuban, who fights in England on March 22, has become frustrated and has been calling out both Frampton and Quigg ahead of their mega money clash on February 27.
Rather than get tetchy, Frampton has empathized with the main he has readily called the best at the weight.
“I feel a little sorry for the position of Rigo,” Frampton said. “The way he’s an unbelievable fighter – he’s someone who I admire and obviously the TV channels don’t appreciate his style of boxing.
“They want to see blood and guts, and technically there’s nobody better than him in the world. It’s just the way he’s been treated by the governing bodies. I think he’s been unfairly treated. They’ve given Scott Quigg his title. I think it’s been unfair so you have to feel a little sorry for him.”
