Ormond: I am fighting for a major title on March 19th
Stephen Ormond claims his Febraury 6th Dublin clash is a warm up for a big March St Patrick’s weekend showdown.
‘The Rock’ is excited about fighting in front of his home fans and making a cameo appearance on Boxnation, a station that will air the World title fight with former foes Terry Flanagan and Derry Matthews, but says March 19th in Boston is his main focus.
The former WBO European champion is determined to secure a World title in 2016 and will fight for a title that will ensure he takes a massive step toward achieving that goal on the Murphy’s Boxing St Patrick’s Day Clash in March.
“It’s good to be back in Dublin. To be honest I don’t know who I am fighting and I don’t care. This is a warm up fight ahead of a big year,” Ormond told Irish-boxing.com.
“It’s still a fight, but the big one is March 19th. This is to keep me busy and then I have a title fight. I am just waiting on word as to what title it is for, but it will get me a ranking. That is the main thing getting in the rankings and making sure I get that World title shot.”
“I am just going to get in there and do what I do. It is always special for me to fight in Dublin and again I have to thank MGM. I love fighting in the Stadium and I am delighted to be back there.”
Former amateur standout Ormond has had many special nights in the first purpose built boxing stadium in the world. He collected a number of Irish title’s throughout a distinguished amateur career, but one title and moment remains head and shoulders above all others and he reflected on it when talking to Irish-boxing.com.
“My favourite fight in the Stadium was when I won my third senior title. I beat Gavin Brown to win my first one, but the third one was the lightweight title and it was 20 years nearly to the day my father won the exact same title. That was something a bit special. I have great memories from the Stadium and I love going back there. “
