It’s not quite as high profile as a possible Matthew Macklin versus Andy Lee middleweight clash, but it would prove an equally mouthwatering middleweight domestic melee nonetheless.

Contenders Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan and Eamonn O’Kane are open to facing each other this Spring.

No promoter has officially confirmed an interest in putting on the clash as of yet, but both Derry’s O’Kane and Cork’s O’Sullivan took to Twitter today to confirm they are willing to trade leather.

O’Sullivan’s coach Pascal Collins mooted Matchroom’s proposed April/May Belfast show as the ideal date, venue, and platform for the all-Ireland bout.

However, O’Kane’s coach Paddy Fitzpatrick, who has been raising the idea of a four way tournament between Lee, Macklin, O’Kane and O’Sullivan, and indeed O’Kane have suggested the fight would be big enough to fill the 3Arena (previously the O2 and previously previously The Point).

Either way, both are willing and, if the financials can be sorted another, exciting all-Irish clash can be made.

‘Spike’ and ‘King Kane’ consider themselves friends. The Cork man vacated the Irish middleweight title to allow O’Kane and Anthony Fitzgerald fight for it in Dundalk and sparred the Derry man in the build up for that clash. 

However, they are willing to put that friendship aside for the good of their careers. Both have lost recent high profile fights with O’Kane coming up short in a World title eliminator against Tureano Johnson and ‘Spike’ losing to Chris Eubank Jr, but both retain top ten rankings with the IBF and WBA respectively.
