‘Pissed Off’ Phil Sutcliffe Jr ready to do damage on Saturday night
Fighting hellacious puncher Phil Sutcliffe Jr is a scary prospect at the best of times, but trading leather with a ‘pissed off’ version of the light welterweight prospect seems a nightmare scenario.
That’s what awaits poor Pole Lukasz Janik (14-15-1) in Blackpool this coming weekend.
The plan initially was to take it somewhat easy against a fighter, who has shared the ring with prospects around Europe, in a bid to try and ditch the ‘too dangerous’ tag the 26 year old has built up since turning pro in the hope some big name fighters would be tempted into a clash with the 8-0 knock out artist.
However, ‘Sucko’ is in a bad mood, and goes into this clash with bad intentions and can’t promise he won’t take out his frustration on Janik.
“To be honest I was going into this fight planning to go the six round, but the way I am feeling this week fair play to this lad if he goes six rounds with me. I just had a bad week and I am feeling pissed off,” the Crumlin BC graduate told Irish-boxing.com.
“The BUI got onto me this week and all my stuff was out of date since September. I don’t know why they didn’t tell me earlier. I had to go get by blood work, brain scan and all that done during the week. It’s just very frustrating. It was a taper off week so it didn’t effect training too much, but it has me pissed off,” an honest and straight-talking Sutcliffe continued.
“Maybe I will cool off before the fight. At the minute I have mixed emotions – I might try and hold off for the six rounds as much as I can and try and give people an incentive to fight me, but I really feel like going in and destroying this fella.”
Sutcliffe has had more than a frustrating seven days. He is keen to push on but a mixture of injuries and lack of desire by more noted punchers to share the ring with him has hampered his progression. Saturday’s Hilton Hotel hosted fight night, a card managerial stable mate Tommy McCarhty also fights on, is the first bill he appears on since May. A cut in sparring ruled out the Pat Magee managed Dub from a fight last month.
However, he claims that pent up frustration was released with some good sparring with English lightweight Kevin Mitchell.
“I was pissed off after the last fight fell through, but I got the chance to get in some sparring with Kevin Mitchell and that helped.
I done two eight round and one 10 round spars with him and trained for the week alongside Martin Ward, Lucien Reid and the lads in that gym. Kevin is a lovely fella and the spar was great. It was my first real spar in a while, so after six rounds of the first day I was blowing out my arse, but I did eight. It was good experience to be in with a guy that should be WBC World champion now.”
