The Irish-Boxing.com Awards – ‘Show of the Year’

Irish boxing is booming. This year we had 15 professional shows on these shores and there promises to be even more in 2016.

With that in mind we are looking for your thoughts on what was the Irish Show of the Year.

And the nominees are:
‘New Beginning’ – MGM Promotions – National Stadium – 4/7/2015
The return of big time boxing to the capital was a cracker of a first attempt from MGM Promotions. As well as featuring undercard appearances from future World champions Ryan Burnett and Stephen Ormond, it was headlined by Jamie Conlan in a war against Junior Granados. Down twice in the seventh, the Belfast man was roared to his feet and to victory by a passionate crowd at the Stadium in what was one of the most incredible atmospheres ever witnessed at the famous venue.

‘This Is It! – Féile Fight Night’ – Pat Magee – Falls Park – 1/8/2015
What a setting! Under the marquee in the Falls Park we were treated to a brilliant event. The card had had everything, brilliance from young Joe Fitzpatrick, a shock defeat for Paul Quinn, a cracking all-action battle between Alfredo Meli and Rhys Pagan, and Tommy McCarthy announcing himself on the big stage with a win over Courtney Fry.

‘Friday Fight Night’ – T & A Promotions – Red Cow Moran Hotel – 6/11/2015
A night of tough battles featuring an vociferous crowd. The night began explosively, with Alec Bazza being edged out by Yordan Vasilev, before big stoppage wins for Sean Creagh and debutante Lynn Harvey (and her huge fanbase), and finally two tough bouts for headliners Stephen Carroll and Niall Kennedy. The perfect small hall show.

‘Second Coming’ – MGM Promotions – National Stadium – 7/11/2015
The second MGM show of the year had our tongues wagging for 2016. On top of slick performance by Jamie Conlan and Declan Geraghty, as well as an Irish return for Jamie Kavanagh, there were TWO all-Irish battles with Ian Tims out-willing Michael Sweeney and Peter McDonagh defeating Dean Byrne for a glorious third Irish title.

‘All on the Line’ – Cyclone Promotions – Waterfront Hall – 20/11/2015
A stellar effort by the McGuigans at the wonderfully impressive Waterfront Hall. The night featured an unbelievable stoppage by Paddy Gallagher, a trademark war featuring Paul Hyland Jr, a return to form for Marco McCullough, and a fantastic draw in the main event between Conrad Cummings and Alfredo Meli for the BBBoC Celtic middleweight title.
