Ormond to get World title shot on Frampton v Quigg undercard?
Sky Sports News were not long into an ad break after officially announcing the most eagerly anticipated Irish versus English clash since Steve Collins versus Chris Eubank Jr before undercard talk raised its head.
Fans were querying as to who the supporting acts would be, and fighters were making Cyclone Promotions and Matchroom aware of their availability for the massive Carl Framtpon versus Scott Quigg clash set for February 27.
Among the host of suggestions and names an interesting whisper, hopefully not of the Chinese kind, was being spread.
There are suggestions that Al Haymon, who acts as an advisor for ‘The Jackal’ will have some undercard input and that he is hoping to add new Irish signing Stephen Ormond to the bill.
Indeed, rumour has it, Haymon wants to put ‘The Rock’ in a World title fight on the eagerly anticipated card.
If Anthony Crolla claims victory in his rematch with Darleys Perez on November 21st and takes the WBA World lightweight title, a February defence against Ormond would make sense.
Crolla is a Manchester ticket seller and is often employed to help boost Quigg ticket sales, plus the bout would add further Irish v English interest.
It is quite possible we are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but maths has never been our strong point, but we are lead to believe Haymon and Murphy’s Boxing are keen to get the Dubliner a World title shot and have eyed up February 27th as a possibility.
