Cyclone Promotions CEO, Blaine McGuigan has confirmed today that negotiations between IBF Super Bantamweight Champion, Carl Frampton and WBA Regular Champion Scott Quigg are at “best stage it has ever been”.

Rumours have circulated that a Frampton-Quigg bout will take place in February 2016, most likely in England, and when asked if negotiations were positive, McGuigan confirmed,

“Yes. I’m not going to set a date, but its been ongoing for a very long time now, but what I will say is that we are probably at the best stage it has ever been.”

Speaking at a press conference in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, promoting Cyclone Promotions next show, featuring a local derby between Conrad Cummings and Alfredo Meli for the BBBOFC Celtic Middleweight Title; McGuigan was asked if Frampton was “too big” for Belfast.

“I don’t think he is too big. We have all got to remember that Belfast has some incredible outdoor arenas, such as Windsor Park and Ravenhill. These are fantastic venues, but we would kind of have to tilt it to summer shows.”

McGuigan continued; “That’s not to say that we can’t take him to the Odyssey, but we can’t expect the calibre of a Scott Quigg fight in that arena. It just doesn’t make financial sense, but let’s not discount it, the Odyssey has been “The Jackal’s Den” if you like, and I’m sure we’ll box there in the future, just for the right fight.”
