O’Sullivan opponent pulls out ahead of U.S television bout
Cork knock-out artist Gary O’Sullivan is becoming at home on the U.S. East Coast and is looking forward to fighting in Massachusetts once again – despite currently being without an opponent after the withdrawal Francisco Cordero.
‘Spike’ fights on the undercard of a Murphy’s Boxing-promoted ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ show at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on October 10th.
Ahead of the fight, whilst in London supporting gym-mate Frank Buglioni, O’Sullivan spoke to the Irish Post, explaining that “this is my seventh fight in America now – I’ve fought in Madison Square Garden and five times in Boston, but this will be the first time I’ve fought in Lowell, which is the hometown of my hero Micky Ward, so this is extra special.”
Detailing his opponent difficulties, the Leesider noted that “I was meant to be fighting a Colombian guy [Francisco Cordero] with a record of 32 wins, 22 by knockout, but he’s just after pulling out of the fight I’m only after hearing.”
However the Munster man, a real ‘have gloves, will travel’ fighter isn’t too bothered by his current lack of opposition, reasoning that “Paschal will sort out a replacement, but I’m disappointed to be honest, that fight would have helped me move up the rankings.”
“I’ve been sparring with Frank Buglioni for the last 12 weeks so I’ll be well prepared anyway.”
