The IBF are set to tell Carl Frampton that Shingo Wake is next in line for his World title, and that Japanese fighter should get an opportunity ahead of Scott Quigg.

Wake is mandatory for the ‘The Jackal’s’ strap and, having defeated Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in a voluntary defence in July, Frampton is obliged to fight the 28 year old next.

According to World Boxing News the Belfast puncher will be ordered to enter a period of talks with Wake and his team next Monday.

IBF Chairman Lindsey Tucker told World Boxing News: “Carl Frampton will be notified on September 28, 2015 to start negotiations with mandatory challenger Shingo Wake.”

There are some suggesting the IBF’s actions could throw a Wake shaped spanner in the Frampton vs Quigg works and could prevent the much talked about clash taking place in early 2016.

However, if Frampton vs Quigg is to generate the kind of cash being talked about paying Wake step aside money is certainly possible.

Also the news gives Frampton a viable fight and opponent if talks with Matchroom do break down.
