A super-fight between IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton and Bury’s Scott Quigg has been brewing for the last five years and the clash still seems as far away as ever. The Englishman is currently over in Hollywood training at Freddie Roache’s famous Wild Card Gym, and the former British champion spoke to Steve Kim of BoxingScene and the Undisputed Champion Network about his rivalry with Frampton and the chances of the two ever coming to blows.

On Frampton’s performance against Alejandro González Jr. in El Paso last month, Quigg was quite damning, feeling that the Belfast man “wasn’t at his best; he didn’t look that good.”

“He got put down by two nothing shots, in my eyes.”

“He didn’t perform anything like the way the McGuigans and, himself, build him up to what they think he is.”

If the fight does not happen between the pair, Quigg argues that the blame would fall squarely at the feet of the Belfast man’s manager and promoter, Barry McGuigan, musing that “I believe Frampton wants the fight, but will it happen? That’s a 50-50 chance because the real problem is Barry McGuigan.”

When asked whether his career would be unfulfilled if he never faced ‘The Jackal,’ Quigg replied “No, because it’s a fight I want to be involved with and I want to prove I’m the best and, 100 percent, I believe I beat him.

“But I wont be disappointed because it’s not fault of mine why that fight’s not happening.”

“Again, if they came to me and offered me 1.5 million and if I would’ve turned the offer down, what then? I would’ve been getting slayed.”

“So it’s no fault of mine own why this fight’s not happening again. I just want the big fights. My career doesn’t revolve around Carl Frampton.”
