Fitzgerald makes successful light middleweight debut

HE got the job done, but didn’t make light work of his first light middleweight opponent.

The Pride of Dublin seems addicted to being involved in a good scrap and while he can raise his game to mix it with the likes of Andy Lee and Hassan N’Dam he can mix with journey men opposition he has the ability to out box.

The 30 year old blood and guts battler never looked liked losing to Kieran Grey in the same venue he had two fight of the year contenders with Robbie Long, but his desire to fight ensured the English had some success.

The well supported Dub took a 77-75 win in another entertaining clash.

Fitzgerald started brightly and early body work looked like it could pay dividends come the fourth stanza when Grey began to tire.

However, the English man landed an crowd educing groan in the fifth and started to battle back. Fitzgerald went for the stoppage in the last, but ended up getting a point deducted after a low blow and a slap to the back of the head.

Fitzgerald will argue the win is the main thing, will be content with the rounds and will point out he hadn’t a full camp no doubt and will be soon calling out big names and performing admirably against them once again.
