Big Benn boost for Clancy ahead of first title fight
Oughterard Boxer Gearoid Clancy will challenge for the regional honours in the Punch Bowl Australia this weekend.
Clancy, who is now fighting out of the Bondi Boxing Club run by Tony Del Vecchio, will fight John Ming for the right to be called lightweight champion of New South Wales on card that includes TJ Doheny, Darragh Foley and Tony Senior.
The July 4 clash will be Clancy’s fifth pro fight but his first over eight rounds.
The Down Under based puncher has had three wins and one defeat to date.
Clancy and his fellow Irish boxing companions TJ Donheny and Daragh Foley got a real boost during the week when former world champion Nigel Benn came to the gym and took the lads for several training sessions.
