O’Reilly: I am happy but won’t be satisfied until I get gold

MICHEAL O’Reilly claimed a first major International senior medal in Baku yesterday, but claims bronze is just an appetizer and he is ready to dine out on gold success by the time the week is done.

The 22 year old National Champion was happy after he guaranteed himself a podium finish with a dominant showing against Slovenia’s Aljaz Venko in Baku on Wednesday.

However, the Port Laoise punchers thirst for success has not be quenched and he has set his sights on claiming gold.

Sparking after a win in which he flashed his Olympic credentials O’Reilly said.

“I’m happy but not satisfied. I want to go all the way,” he told reporters. “That’s what I came for. I hope I can change the colour of that medal over the next few days.”

“Winning a medal here means I have now qualified for the world championships [in Doha in October]. That gives me a chance to qualify for the Rio Olympics. That’s the dream for me.”

O’Reilly will meet Russia’s Maxim Koptyakov in the next stage on Friday.
