McVarnock determined not to have a nightmare at Ellesmere

CIARAN McVarnock isn’t planning on having a nightmare at Ellesmere next month.

The Belfast fighter enters the ring for the fourth time as a pro and is confident he will emerge victorious.

‘Bunty’ is comfortable in the knowledge he is at the ‘learning his trade’ stage, but is hoping for a test in Chester on July 25.

The 23 year old super featherweight believes the better the opposition the better he performs.

“I have no idea who I am fighting, but who ever is put in front of me I will fight them no matter what their record is. This is boxing. Everyone has to fight and get put to the test sometime in their career. If I have to do it my next fight them so be it,” McVarnock told Irish-boxing.com.

“I would like to fight someone that comes to win . Someone that comes to fight. I believe it will bring out the best in me. My last opponent held, ran and made me look bad. That was frustrating and hopefully I get a guy that comes to fight this time round.”

McVarnock has fought three times since turning over in December of 2013. Ideally he would have preferred a busier schedule, but the Belfast man is the ultimate optimist and views the breaks between fights as the ideal time to improve.

“I think this year is going OK to be fair. Every boxer likes to be really active and always fighting, but this is a long career and there is no need for me to be rushed.

“I’m still a novice as in I have only had three fights, but I won them all. Also the further my fights are apart the more chance I have to learn and the more improvements I can make.

“Every day I’m learning . Every day I’m picking up new things. I’m getting the best of sparring with Paul Butler and I have got a world class coach Anthony Farnell. I’m happy the way things are.”

McVarnock was initially scheduled to fight at the National Stadium on the New Beginnings Boxnation broadcast bout on July 4.

It seemed a perfect fit for the Frank Warren Promoted puncher, however he has since been informed he fights on the Nightmare at Ellesmere card. A Dublin date he admits would have been ideal, but he is content just to have a fight date.

“I was told I was going to fight on the show in Dublin then the day it was announced I seen that my name wasn’t on the list.  These things happen in boxing. All I have to do is train and fight when I’m told.

“Still it would have been ideal to fight in Dublin. I sell allot of tickets in Belfast and I’m sure I could do the same in Dublin and got a few coaches heading down. It’s always great to fight in Ireland.”
