McComb scores impressive win at European Games
BELFAST lightweight Sean McComb has confirmed his status as a real medal contender at the European Games with a superb win over Ukranian youngster Tymur Beliak.
The Holy Trinity man won the Round of 32 clash via unanimous decision after three close rounds with the judges scoring the bout 29-28 x2 and 30-27 to McComb
The tall southpaw is hunting for his first podium place at a major international tournament and this win will give him much confidence as he goes forward in search of medals and qualification for the 2016 Olympics.
Through a mixture of victories and byes, eleven of Ireland’s twelve-strong team have made it to the Last 16 stage in Baku and are all now only two fights away from securing a medal.
The only Irishman in action today, McComb will now face Italy’s Donato Cosenza in the Last 16 on Saturday (12:00pm Irish time).
