O’Sullivan could challenge for World honours in Ireland this August
GARY ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan looks set to fight in Ireland on August 29 and if things go according to plan will challenge for World honours.
Since joining Murphy’s Boxing the Cork middleweight’s journey toward the top has picked up massive pace and having impressed Stateside with three quick fire knock out wins en route to buckling the WBA NABA title around his waist, ‘Spike’ looks set for a massive homecoming.
A big Irish show is in the works with August 29 set as a provisional date and the 30 year old could challenge for a significant title before the summer is out.
“Murphy’s Boxing are looking at doing a show with Spike on August 29,” Pascal Collins told Irish-boxing.com.
“The show will be Ireland and we are looking at venues. It will be a big show and there is one scenario that could see Spike challenge for a version of the World title.”
Eamonn O’Kane has been mutted as a possible opponent for the Cork man and the pair have exchanged positive tweets about trading leather.
However, Collins claims talks with two high profile fighters have already begun and O’Sullivan’s coach doesn’t think the Derry man will be next.
“Without going to much into it we started talking to two high profile fighters when we were in America and I think Spike will fight one of them next. We tried to make the O’Kane fight before we went to America, but they didn’t want it at the time. That is a fight that interests us and one we were open to before, but we have a couple of names in the pipe line now and as I said it could lead to a major title fight. O’Kane could be the first defence?”
