Celtic lightweight champ Fryers to move down to super featherweight

Unbeaten West Belfast prospect James “The Future” Fryers is certainly living up to his ring monocle after a tremendous contest in Andersonstown Leisure Centre on 28th March when he and a very talented undefeated Mark Morris put everything on the line in what turned out to be “Contest of the Night”.

Fryers, 22 who is the “Quiet Man” by nature not only won the exciting contest for the vacant Boxing Union of Ireland Lightweight Celtic Nations Title, but won over the knowledgeable crowd with a special derby display.

Fryers now 7-0 now heads to the Lavey Centre on May 2nd where he will feature on the undercard of Eamonn O’Kane’s IBF International Middleweight title fight.

Dunlop explained he will now move Fryers to the Super Featherweight division after comfortably weighing in at 9-7 in his last two fights which have been for titles in the division above (Lightweight).

“The switch to Super Featherweight will see him looking at a top ten ranking in a division with more opportunities for him at present.

“This will also free up more options for me with stable mate Paul Hyland Jnr who will soon rule the lightweight division. The May 2 contest will keep Fryers ticking over until my next show in the Devenish Complex on 6th June, which will be headlined by Irish Light Middleweight Champion Dee Walsh. I Like to keep all my fighters busy and in tune”
