Butler’s coach wants Jamie Conlan next
ANTHONY Farnell wants Paul Butler to return from his World title disappointment with a meaningful fight and has earmarked Jamie Conlan has the perfect comeback foe.
The former IBF bantamweight World champion failed in his bid to pick up the super flyweight version of the same title losing to Zolani Tete via stoppage on March 6. Farnell doesn’t want his charge to dwell on the disappointment and is against the Liverpudlian returning against a journey man.
Indeed, he believes undefeated Belfast fighter Conlan would provide Butler with the type of challenge he needs next.
“I want Paul to get straight back into a title fight again be it a British level fighter or a top ten world rated fighter,” Farnell told World Boxing News.
“There is no point going from Tete to a journey man. Someone like Jamie Conlan. A lovely lad, he has a great team, he is unbeaten and he will come and make Paul work. They already fought in the amateurs.
“People talk about warm up fights, but there are no warm up fights in boxing. A man’s got two arms, two legs and if he hits you, you will go down.”
‘The Mexican’ has been keen on a Butler fight for sometime and was left frustrated as ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ wouldn’t give him a British title shot. The WBO also ordered a World title eliminator between the pair, but Butler elected to follow the IBF route. It’s certainly a bout the new MGM fighter would welcome.
