Rigondeaux: Frampton is number 1 on my hit list
CARL Frampton is number one on WBA and WBO super bantamweight Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux’s hit list.
The two time Olympic gold medal winner claims the only 122 lbs fighter worthy of challenging him is the Belfast star.
The Cuban, who is managed by Cork man Gary Hyde, has struggled to tempt fellow champion Leo Santa Cruz into the ring and mandatory challenger Scott Quigg isn’t interested.
‘Rigo’ believes Frampton wants the fight and told the Belfast Newsletter that he is the only fighter the world that can provide him with a test.
“The only fighter I would like to face in the Super-bantamweight division is Carl Frampton,” he told the News Letter.
“He is the only one that would challenge and test me. WBC World Champion Leo Santa Cruz means nothing to me – the same goes for Scott Quigg.
“Frampton is the number one fighter in the world on my hit-list and he is the one I want. Santa Cruz and Quigg mean nothing to me – Frampton is the one I want and I hope that fight happens.”
The desire to get it on is reciprocated, but Frampton wants to deal with Scott Quigg and a unification clash might have to wait till late 2015 or early 2016.
