Conlan: It’s not as bad as people think- I had flu and hope to reschedule

JAMIE Conlan suffered more career woe when a possible World title eliminator on a massive terrestrial TV broadcast World title card fell through last week.

The Belfast super-flyweight was down with illness and as a result won’t defend his  WBO Inter-continental title against Warlito Parrenas on the Carl Frampton versus Chris Avalos World title card.

Considering the Belfast super flyweights previous dalliances with bad luck fight fans have been sharing their sympathies with the fighter.

However, whilst Conlan is disappointed he isn’t too down and is trying to look on the bright side. The 27 year old is happy he had flu and not a serious injury and is confident the fight, which could pave the way for a World title shot, could be rescheduled for as early as April.

“I won’t be fighting on the card, which is disappointing,” Conlan told Irish-boxing.com.

“It isn’t as bad as people make out though, some have me on my death bed! I got the flu that was going around and I missed too much training and vital sparring. I didn’t want to go into such a big fight without a full and proper camp behind me.  It is too big a fight to take the risk I couldn’t take the risk.

“But It isn’t an injury which is a good thing. I am back training now and I believe they are talking about re making the fight for April so its not all bad news.”
