O’Sullivan targets Cork v Limerick World title fight with Andy Lee
GARY O’Sullivan was full of Andy Lee praise after his fellow Irish middleweight claimed the WBO world title, but in true ‘Spike’ fashion expressed a desire to dethrone the Limerick man.
O’Sullivan knows he doesn’t currently blip on Lee’s radar, but he see’s a scenario in which he can secure a WBO middleweight tilt.
And if he does get a shot at Lee, who looks set to defend his title against Billy Joe Saunders this Spring, he has indicated he would knock the Adam Booth trainer out.
“You could not meet a nicer man, and a most deserving champion. He’s a real role model. But Andy knows I would love a fight with him. It’s up to me to earn a spot on the undercard of his first title defence in Limerick or Dublin,” Spike said.
“If I beat a world-ranked opponent, I become a viable contender for the title. Everyone who knows me realises that the WBO belt is one that is special to me. If I fought Andy, I would be the first to pick him off the canvas and dust him off when I knock him out. He’s a fantastic champion and fella, but this is a ruthless business.”
