McGuigan indicates Quigg is next in what will be ‘sensational’ 2015 for Frampton

BARRY McGuigan believes Carl Frampton will add Scott Quigg and Leo Santa Cruz to his record in what will be a bumper 2015 for the IBF super bantamweight champion of the World.

Frampton secured legendary Irish boxing status by becoming the countries 20th World champion, when beating Kiko Martinez in the Titanic Quarter in September.

However his mentor and fellow Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan believes the 27 year old will win plaudits further a field and on a grander stage with big wins in what promises to be a massive 2015.

British rival Quigg seems to be lined up for around the summer time and all going to plan Frampton could finish the year with a massive unification bout with Golden Boy’s WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz.

“I believe that 2015 will be a sensational year for Carl Frampton, and I believe that he will beat Avalos and he will beat him in exciting style, and then we will go on to fight (Scott) Quigg possibly or Leo Santa Cruz. It’s going to be a magnificent year for him,” McGuigan told RTE.

To ensure this big fight can get made Frampton must first over come Chris Avolas on February 28 in Belfast.

The American is certainly talking, but McGuigan believes he is talking his way into trouble.

“I don’t think he knows what he is letting himself in for,” added McGuigan.

“He’s about to walk into the most atmospheric arena in the world, when he comes to the cauldron that is the Odyssey Arena. It’s going to be something that he has never experienced before.

“Having said that, a ring is a ring and it doesn’t matter where it is, and Carl has to produce the goods, but Carl has been fired up.

“If we needed to get Carl fired up, this guy has certainly done that for us and he is training really well and is already sparring. He has done 21 rounds this week with Pajo (Patrick) Hyland, who is a world class operator at featherweight and super featherweight. So he is in great condition already and the fight is two months away.
