Irish Youths Third in Europe
IABA Press Officer Bernard O’Neill
Ireland finished in third position in the team ranking table at the 38-nation 2011 European Youth Championships.
Russia, Azerbaijan and Ireland, in that order, finished in the top three.
The IABA hosted event concluded at the Citywest Convention Centre in Dublin this afternoon.
Ireland’s Michael O’Reilly and Gary Sweeney both won silver at the tournament, while Joe Fitzpatrick, Stephen Broadhurst and Jack Morrissey won bronze.
Today’s medal hauls increases Ireland’s take at this level to 16 medals won since Michael Holmes and Tommy Thompson claimed silver and gold in Dublin in 1978.
The Immaculata BC in Belfast, meantime, have the distinction of winning two medals at this level as Frankie Slane won bronze in Scotland in 1992 and Joe Fitzpatrick won bronze this week in Dublin.
Please see below attachment for ranking table.
