Taylor to face Jinhua Yin in World Championship semi final

Katie Taylor will meet Jinhua Yin of China in the semi-finals of the AIBA World Elite Women’s Championships in Jeju, South Korea on Sunday.

The Bray woman, who is aiming for her fifth successive title title in Jeju, was slated to meet Russia’s Sofya Ochigava in a repeat of the 2012 World and Olympic finals the quarter-finals this morning.

But Ochigava did no weigh-in today and Taylor received a walkover. Yin beat Denista Eliseeva of Bulgaria on a split decision this morning to set up Sunday’s last-four meeting with Taylor.

Taylor is now guaranteed bronze, her fifth successive medal at this level since she won gold in New Delhi in 2006, in Jeju.

Saturday is a rest day at the tournament. The semi-finals and finals will be held on Sunday and Monday.
