Bates registers third consecutive KO but claims there is more to come

CIARAN Bates continues to make people sit up and take note by putting opponents on the seat of their pants.

The 28 year old pro novice made it three stoppage wins from three in Downpatrick on Saturday night.

The light welterweight became the first person to inflict stoppage defeat on Lewis O’Mara and made a mini statement by out doing fellow prospects Luke Wilton and James Fryers on the small hall show.

Even more impressive Bates, who was delighted with his third pro victory, claims he has yet to master the art of power punching.

“I hurt him wit a left hook in the second, he tried to grab hold, but I shrugged him off then I hit him wit a flurry of punches and then ref steeped in,” Bates told Irish-boxing.com. 

“I’m not surprised he brought Wilton and Fryers the distance because he was in awkward southpaw and isn’t the easiest to pin down and hit. I was expecting rounds but the stoppage came so I took it i am happy with that.

“I’m still learning at the moment. I have to settle down on my punches so my power will improve even more.” 

Bates isn’t sure what is next, but hopes to be out before Christmas.

“I am not sure whats up next. There is talk of a fight in England this side of Christmas so I am keeping fit for now and I will see what happens.”
