Joyce and Ward weigh in ahead of AIBA Pro Boxing debuts
David Oliver Joyce and Joe Ward weighed-in today ahead of their AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) debuts in Kazakhstan and Bulgaria tomorrow.
Joyce tipped the scales at 59.6kg for his lightweight (60kg) clash with Kazakhstan’s Berik Abdrakhmanov in Astana and Ward weighed-in at 80.5kg for his light-heavyweight (81kg) meeting with Russia’s Nikita Ivanov in Sofia.
Billy Walsh and John Conlan will work Joyce’s corner in Astana. Eddie Bolger and Zuar Antia will work Ward’s corner in Sofia.
Both fights will be over six rounds. The entire APB program begins tomorrow, with fights scheduled in all of the ten weight classes in various countries.
“It’s finally here after years of preparation. It promises to be very exciting and we’re delighted to be part of such an historic occasion for our sport,” said Irish head coach Billy Walsh.
“David is in top form and looking forward to Friday night, I was speaking to Eddie and Zuar in Sofia and Joe is raring to go also.”
