Dennis Hogan awaits the winner of Walsh and Maughan’s Irish title fight
THE winner of Dee Walsh and Terry Maughan will have to defend against Australian and Oceanic light middleweight champion Dennis Hogan before April 25 of next year.
The BUI requested a Hogan stipulation and both Walsh and Maughan have agreed to defend against the Kildare native if the strap the belt around their waste on ‘The Back to the Future’ card set for Belfast on November 22.
Hogan, who has claimed State and National and Continental titles in Australia and is ranked in the IBF World top 15 has always expressed a desire to return to Ireland and claim the domestic strap. ‘The Hurricane’ is set to make his American debut next month but it seems he is eyeing up an Irish return and an Irish title tilt for early next year.
A Hogan versus Walsh clash would prove particularly intriguing and has certainly excited the Belfast 24 year old.
“When I advised Dee Walsh of the BUI’s stipulation the first thing he said to me was “Arena Fight” but also showed great maturity and respect for Terry Maughan who is a tuff fighter and said he is taking nothing for granted after Joe Hillerby’s misfortune,” MHD Promotions boss Mark Dunlop told Irish-boxing.com.
“MHD Promotions also are considering a challenge from Scottish Promoter Paul Graham to face his Light – Middleweight prospect Rhys Pagan for a Celtic title. We are delighted to be looking after Dee Walsh, he is without a doubt one off the best ticket sellers in Ireland and has proved as much without being on a big card. Walsh is brave, talented and touted to go all the way. The next 12 months will see Dee Walsh replace his prospect tag with contender status.”
The Back To Future under card also features unbeaten prospects James Fryers, Michael Mckinson, Paul Hyland, Jnr Olympic Youth Gold Medallist Ryan Burnett, Gerard Healy, Alan Donnellan and Darren Cruise.
