Garcia confident of upset

Eduardo Garcia has expressed his surprise at being presented with the opportunity to take on Bernard Dunne.

The 28-year-old Mexican has been unveiled as Dunnes opponent for the November 15 outing at the Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar, Mayo.

Former European super-bantamweight champion Dunne will go into the bout as favourite, not least because he has home advantage.

However, Garcia is utterly unconcerned, as he is well used to winning on the road.

I have heard about Dunne and watched some of his fights on the internet. He is a good fighter but I believe I am simply better and I think he will be a great stepping stone for me to a world title, he claimed.

I want to join the list of great Mexican world champions and I know a win over Dunne should get me a world title fight.

I was surprised to get the call for this fight because I have proved again and again in my career that I can travel to a fighters backyard and spoil the party. In fact, in my last 3 fights I have upset the local fighter and I plan to do the same again this time.”

Garcia came short when he challenged Nobuo Nashiro for the Japanese fighters super-flyweight WBA title two years ago but Bambino believes that he has improved immeasurably since then.

I think that chance came too soon for me and my inexperience showed. I hurt the champion badly in the tenth but I ran out of time to finish him and the judges decision did not go my way, he said of his unanimous points defeat.

I was also struggling with the weight and am a lot more comfortable at super bantamweight. Im 28 now and I think Im at my peak and ready for any of the world champions out there.”

Garcia added: Dunne is also a world rated fighter so after I beat him I hope that will be good enough to make me a mandatory challenger for the world title. I know I wont make any mistakes second time around.
