McCullough a little frustrated despite career best win
MARCO McCullough registered a career best win beating a World champion in front of a massive crowd in the Titanic Quarter on Saturday night but left the ring a little frustrated.
The Belfast featherweight beat Dmitry Kirillov into submission- the Russian formerly trained by Freddie Roach failed to come out for the ninth round- after a one sided affair.Â
However, despite dominating and winning in such comprehensive fashion the WBO European champion, who continues to impress and grow with each fight, was left feeling a bit disappointed.
McCullough was frustrated by his foe’s negative tactics and believes a more adventurous Kirillov would have offered him the chance to register a more explosive knock out.
“He was very tricky and a bit frustrating. I could only hit him with single shots not combinations because every time I landed a shot and I went or the second one he was away.
“Kirillov’s a former world champion and my trainer John Breen was shouting at me from the corner to use the jab so that’s what I was trying to do.
“At times I just wanted to stand and fight with him but I ended up chasing him around the ring. John told me to just keep on boxing him. Coming out into the ring in front of all those people was brilliant,” he added.
