Frampton: It is crazy to suggest beating Martinez is a formality
CARL Frampton warns it is insane to suggest victory over World champion Kiko Martinez in September is a forgone conclusion.
‘The Jackal’ became the first and only man to beat the Spaniard by stoppage last February and his fans and indeed a lot of industry insiders are predicting the same outcome when the pair rematch on a massive Titanic Showdown card next month.
Indeed the former Commonwealth and European champion has himself predicted he could get the job done earlier. However, he is aware the dangers the aggressive Martinez brings and knows the IBF champion will be full of confidence on the back of his recent run of knock out wins.
“Just because I knocked Kiko out in the first fight, some people think this is a formality and I just have to turn up. That’s absolutely crazy, this is boxing and anything can happen to you,” Frampton told the Irish Times.
“One good shot and your night is over. But equally, I know I’m a smarter fighter, if I listen carefully and execute our game plan, I have full confidence that I will win this fight.”
