McCarthy proved he is ready for a step up says manager Magee
TOMMY McCarthy is ready to make a step up says a Pat Magee impressed by his charges second successive stoppage win.
McCarthy stopped Imantas Davidaitis and pushed his record to 2-0 on the Coldwell Boxing show at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Manchester on Saturday and his manager was suitably impressed.
Magee, who mentored the career of former super middleweight World champion Brian Magee, now wants to move the Belfast Cruiserweight to six rounders.
“This lad was a bit better than a journey man. He had a win over David Howe, who was a 10-1 prospect, and he was six foot eight and Tommy handled him well. Again he was impressive and I think he proved he is ready to step up a level. The signs are there he is ready to move up he will be in a six rounder next. Those that seen him on the night such as Jamie Moore and David Coldwell suggested as much too,” Magee told Irish-boxing.com.
Magee also hinted that he is interested in putting McCarthy and Philip Sutcliffe Jr on a Belfast card in September.
“Tommy should be out in September, where it be in Belfast or wherever remains to be seen. We are open to putting Tommy on his own show in Belfast, no reason not to.”
