Bates and Nevin claim gold in Czech Republic

George Bates and Michael Nevin capped a golden day for Irish boxing abroad with two gold medal wins in the Czech Republic yesterday.

The Dublin and Portlaoise duo topped the lightweight and light-welterweight podiums at the 45th Usti Nad Labem Grand Prix in the Czech Republic.

Irish team manager Alan Martin hailed both performances.

“George and Michael boxed brilliantly and they were deserved winners. The entire squad performed excellently over the last few days at this tournament,” he said.

John Conlan and Ken Egan were working Ireland’s corner in Usti Nad Labem and Julianne Ryan was Irish physio.
Martin Fennessey was working as R&J at the tournament.
