John Joe Nevin had planned to fight in Ireland in October

JOHN Joe Nevin’s horrific injury has put paid to a pro homecoming bout this October.

The Olympic medal winner and former amatuer standout had planed to follow his successful St Patrick’s Day debut with fights in Atlantic City, New York, Boston in six week increments before returning to his home town Mullingar to fight in October.

A double leg break means the Mullingar shuffler will be out of action for sometime, but his management team Greenbloods are still hoping to put out the talented prospect in Ireland in the future.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com Tom Moran of Greenbloods also revealed that Nevin hopes to return to action as early as the Autumn.

“Our plan with John Joe was to keep him very busy, every five or six weeks fighting, in Atlantic City, New York and Boston, then do an Irish show in October in Mullingar or Dublin.

“Right now, we hope, based on recovery time to have John Joe back in action in the fall, but the Ireland show is likely pushed back some.”

Nevin isn’t the only Irish fighter to be promoted by Greenbloods. They have Belfast trio Ray Ginley, former Irish champion Anthony Cacace and Tyrone McKenna on their books too. And Moran explained the plans for those three unbeaten fighters.

“On the other guys, Ray Ginley is recovering well from January shoulder surgery, an injury from his October Philly fight that did not heal. Anto Cacace and Tyrone McKenna should be back shortly. We had a hold up while we finalised US Work Visas.”
