Frampton: Cazares has been treated unfairly

WHILE he is confident he can beat Hugo Cazares in style come April 4, Carl Frampton believes the two weight former World champion provides a much stiffer test than some have been suggesting.

Indeed ‘The Jackal’ the fighter who has won World titles at light-flyweight and super-flyweight over the last decade has been overlooked by some of the boxing public.

Not many are giving the WBC ranked no1 contender a chance when he comes to Belfast on April 4, but despite lining up WBC World champion Leo Santa Cruz in his lethal sights, Frampton isn’t underestimating the experienced 36 year old.

“I think he’s been treated quite unfairly,” said Frampton of the Mexican when speaking the Mirror. “It’s a world title eliminator, I don’t make the rules and if I want to get a world title shot I need to beat whoever is ahead of me in the rankings.

“You have to give Cazares credit; he’s had a great career. He’s bringing Fernando Montiel over in his corner so I know he’s coming to win. He switches stances well, uses good head movement, and I’m excited because this is going to be the toughest fight of my career.”

However, while he is aware of Cazares capabilities the undefeated Belfast Barry McGuigan mentored pug is confident he will have too much for the Mexican.

However, he applies that view to every super bantamweight on the planet bar Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“You expect every fighter to say this but I’m in the best shape of my career,” he said. “I’ve just beaten my personal best in lifting weights, I’m running faster on the track and I’m going through sparring partners like there’s no tomorrow.

“At this stage of my career I feel like I’m just reaching my peak and apart from Guillermo Rigondeaux I reckon I’m the best out there. Scott Quigg, Martinez, Santa Cruz. I’m better than all of them. You’re going to see the best of me in the next few years. ”
