Gomez to take on Khan

Irish-born Mancunian Michael Gomez has been handed a major opportunity with the announcement that he will face Amir Khan in Birmingham on June 21.
Former British super-featherweight champion Gomez had been due to rematch Peter McDonagh this month but is now looking ahead to a intriguing clash with British boxings most exciting young prospect.
“Amir’s a very good fighter but he’s never fought anyone like me,” Gomez said of the undefeated Commonwealth lightweight champion.
“I’m going to take him out of his comfort zone and get in his face before the first bell has even sounded. I’m not here to make up the numbers.
“It’s my 31st birthday on the night of the fight and I plan on giving myself the best possible birthday present. I will bring endless heart and a massive punch.
“He doesn’t have a good right hand and his punch resistance is not too good. People have doubted me throughout my career but the run-of-the-mill fights just don’t interest me.
“I save my best for the big occasion. I went to Scotland to fight Alex Arthur, who had a virtually identical record to Amir, and I blew him away in the fifth round. I’m going to do the same thing to Khan.”
