McCloskey to swat Mosquera in Interim WBA title fight?

Paul McCloskey’s manager is 99% sure the Dungiven man will challenge for the WBA interim title in the Odyssey Arena on September 10.

Return of the Mc- Dudey to fight for WBA interim title on September 10

Francie McNicholl told Mirror Sport that barring a major catastrophe the Derry stylist first fight since his controversial loss to Amir Khan will be for the strap that Marcos Maidana is set to vacate.

However, it seems rumours the John Breen trained fighter was set to comeback against one of Khan former foes Maidana or Breidis Prescott are unfounded.

McNicholl revealed it will most likely be WBA number 2 Alberto Mosquera (16-0-1) of Panama who the former European champion faces next.

“We are 99 percent sure Paul will fight for the WBA interim title. We are just waiting official conformation from the governing body. In boxing you can’t be 100 percent sure, but we hope to make an announcement over the next week or so. The most likely opponent at present is Mosquera. He fought Johan Perez recently and we were meant to take the winner of that fight, but it ended in a draw.”

Dudey’s father in law and manager also looks after the fledgling career of Eamonn O’Kane and was impressed with the up and coming pro’s display against the tough Tommy Tolan in Lurgan last Saturday.

However the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist won’t be sunning himself this summer after securing his second paid win, as he looks to get out on a Matchroom card next month before fighting on the September 10 under card.

“Tommy provided Eamonn with a tough test. He spoiled and held a lot and made Eamonn work. It was a little messy but he done the business and that’s what counts. He hurt Tommy in the second and the fourth and Tommy couldn’t come out for the sixth. Hopefully he will be out next month on a Matchroom card-possibly on a Darren Barker under card if he has a warm up before Martinez and then on September 10. After that we will look into the possibility of an Irish title fight.”
