Now or Never – Geraghty’s Irish title message to Moran

Declan Geraghty has told Dylan Moran it could be a case of now or never when it comes to a possible Irish title fight.

‘Pretty Boy’ revealed, he both approached and has been approached by Team Moran about trading leather for the welterweight version of the green strap.

However, the southpaw stylist fears the differing time frames the pair have in mind may mean a fight, that really captured fan attention when it was made for April – before falling through last minute – may never materialize.

The Dubliner wanted to share a ring with the Waterford man in Letterkenny on November 18 but that time frame doesn’t suit the popular Deise talent. Moran also thinks the fight is ready-made to top another Ring Kings bill in Waterford next year.

The dates don’t add up nor do the plans align suggests Geraghty, particularly as the 33-year-old wants to retire by the end of the year.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com, Geraghty, who saw an Irish title fight with Owen O’Neill cancelled on weigh-in day explained: “I got onto Jason Quigley and we were trying to get the fight with Owen fight on the [Letterkenny November 18 card] but he turned it down.

“We then asked two Irish fighters to fight on that card, one big-name fighter said it was too short notice for him. Dylan was the second one and he said it wasn’t the right time for him.

“I was hoping Dylan would take it since he has been training but unfortunately he didn’t.”

Pointing out how ‘The Real Deal’s’ plan doesn’t suit him the former amateur standout says he won’t be around to fight next year.

“He said on social media about fighting next year but he won’t fight me anywhere besides his hometown. As for next year, I’m packing boxing in. I might have my last fight next month and that will be my farewell from boxing,” he adds before suggesting there is a slim chance it may happen this year.

“Niel Power texted me the day after the weigh-in asking if would I fight Dylan, I said yes and to try to get it on the Katie [Taylor November 25] bill but I’ve heard nothing back yet.”
