Baby Brother Steps – Paddy Walsh happy to Follow Little Brother’s Lead

Paddy Walsh [1(1)-0] is happy to be following in his baby brother’s boxing footsteps.

The new to-game Kerry fighter fights for just the second time as a pro in Grimsby Auditorium, Grimsby this Saturday night.

The fight is also his second clash in two months and that’s exactly the pace he wants to be progressed at.

Walsh saw his younger brother, Liam Walsh get six big learning fights in a very active debut year and wants that kind of regular work for himself.

“I’m very happy to be out so soon,” he tells Irish-boxing.com “With this being my first year as a pro I want to be as busy as possible. My brother had a great first year having six fights and I want to do the same this year. I have to say thanks to my team for getting me out so quick.”

Walsh’s introduction to pro boxing was as brief as can be, his ring walk lasting longer than his paid bow.

‘Pretty Boy’ got the job done in pretty quick fashion, stopping Vojtech Hrdy inside the first round. It was a dream start and one that was celebrated wildly by his strong following – but his team would have preferred him to get some rounds in.

Rounds shouldn’t be a problem in England on Saturday as the light welterweight pro novice takes on survival specialist John Spencer [1-35(6)].

“I really enjoyed the debut, sold a lot of tickets for the show, and was happy to get the ball rolling. Things can only get better from here on,” he adds before commenting on the weekend’s bout.

“I’m fighting a tough lad John Spencer, he’s out almost every weekend. So I am looking forward to a good fight and getting some good valuable rounds in. I’ll just to take it round by round, listen to my coaches stick to the game plan, and see how it goes from there.”
